Odds and Ends

These rocking chairs were auctioned at the Elementary Art Festival last Friday. They were a collaborative effort by me and another parent and the entire second grade class, about 120 students total. They all added their touch with stamps.

Another banner

This may not be considered high art but I really do enjoy making banners. It's very relaxing to roll out a long piece of paper across the floor and paint a big message. It's very satisfying to see it placed in the environment for which it was intended. Is there a business for hand painted banners?

This banner was for my son's blue and gold cub scout banquet. It was hung above the stage. The theme this year was the Chinese New Year.
Approx. size of the banner is 15'x 30"

Interpretation of a circle

Hayley
Cindy

Chris

Each painting begins the same, on a 4"x4" piece of watercolor paper. I draw the circle in pencil and than give the circle to someone else to paint. So far I have three circles. One was painted by me, the second was painted by Hayley and the third was painted by Chris. I hope to have more circles soon.

Children's art-interpretation of an apple

grade 4

grade K

IT's been almost a week since my last post. That's not really keeping with my "Something new almost everyday" slogan.
I'm thinking about an Interpretive Art project for a group of children. They would all be given the same contour drawing of an object. They would each get a palette of paint and brushes. There would be no rules other than to maintain the contour of the object.
The top painting was done by Matthew age 9 and the bottom was done by Noah age 6.

Harmony in Blue

Here is another painting in this series of music inspired work. The song that seems to play over in my head while painting this one was "Wild Horses" (not the original but a remake- I forget the singers name).
This is also 30"x40" acrylic on canvas. The medium blue is much more turquois in the painting. And the light green has more yellow. It was hard to photograph the colors in this painting.

Harmony in Red

Here is the finished painting. Titled "Angel". I call this my choreography, instead of dancers I use paint.

Thoughts on thought

The soul of God is poured into the world through the thoughts of men. (Ralph Waldo Emerson

Each canvas becomes a historical record of my thought processes, giving the viewer a glimpse into my mind. (Brent R. Laycock)

Colors make things pop. Thoughts, too, have color, and using color to write them down is a way of rap-tap-tapping on the wellspring of our reclusive ideas and forcing them to speak. (Mary Madsen)

When you look in your mind you find it covered with a lot of rubbishy thoughts. You have to penetrate these and hear what your mind is telling you to do. Such work is original work. (Agnes Martin)

The Law of Attraction attracts to you everything you need, according to the nature of your thought. Your environment and financial condition are the perfect reflection of your habitual thinking. Thought rules the world. (Dr. Joseph Murphy)

The picture is not thought out and determined beforehand, rather while it's being made it follows the mobility of thought. (Pablo Picasso)

A room hung with pictures is a room hung with thoughts. (Sir Joshua Reynolds)

Thoughts are energy. And you can make your world or break your world by thinking. (Susan Taylor)

I do not think out what I will do. My thought comes out while I work. My work expresses my thought. My work is my thought. (Tiktak)

My mind is a garden. My thoughts are the seeds. My harvest will be either flowers or weeds. (Mel Weldon)

The thought manifests as the word; / The word manifests as the deed; / The deed develops into habit; / And habit hardens into character. / So watch the thought and its ways with care, / And let it spring from love; / Born out of concern for all beings. (Budda)

Blogging 101 "Angel" wip

I thought it was time I posted #101. I have been busy working on the range hood and cabinetry project. I haven't had much time to do my own painting. Here is a work in progress of my newest painting. I already have the title for this one "Angel". This is the first painting in this series that I am doing on a larger scale. This canvas is 30"x40" and was stretch by my very supportive husband.

MY 100TH POST

For my 100th post I will continue with my work in progress of the range hood. I have painted the rooster and all I have left to do is apply a varnish. I hope to get more pictures when the hood is completed with all the beautiful moldings in place and when it is in the store window.

Work in Progress

Here are some pictures of the range hood that I am working on. I still need to add the rooster in the circle than finish the whole thing with a satin varnish. Hopefully I will finish this tomorrow so that I can start my abstract painting a day on Friday.

Abstract Painting a Day?

I'm thinking of doing an abstract painting a day. I love doing abstract paintings and think this would really get my creative juices flowing. I find that when I paint abstracts on a regular basis I begin to see paintings in my head and the ideas really flourish. I will work on 16"x20" canvases using acrylic paint. Like the painting a day crowd, I may offer them on ebay starting at $100 each.
Today I need to work on a range hood. I am doing a faux finish and decorative painting for a customer. This hood will be displayed in the front window of his store. I will take pictures and post them here when I am done.

RAven Sunset

After looking at this painting and looking and looking I just felt something wasn't right. It was the upper left corner. The gray was too drab and it blended in with the crow. I kept seeing orange in my mind. I had to change it. I'm glad I did. What do you think? I like the sunset much better:)
